Prompt.io is looking for an experienced engineer to join our fully remote development team. In this role, you will be responsible for feature development and implementation of frontend and backend software systems. Your responsibilities will include working with project managers, other engineers, and product owners to develop feature specifications, architecting and programming features that meet the specifications, performance testing and troubleshooting, and systems integration.

Successful candidates will be able to work autonomously on a self-managed team, have excellent troubleshooting skills, be able to quickly and effectively change gears in response to updated business priorities, and have experience building web applications. We’re a small, nimble team so experience working beyond the front end is critical; this role will involve working to build entire features, including APIs and other backend integration as well as customer-facing elements. Prompt.io offers a texting platform used by organizations of all sizes to engage and activate supporters, volunteers, and donors, so a customer-first mindset and the ability to quickly solve customer-facing issues is very important for this role.

Responsibilities:

• Designing and implementing scalable web services, applications, and APIs from idea to release and beyond to bugfixing and maintenance
• Identifying bottlenecks and improving software efficiency
• Implementing testing automation in partnership with the QA team
• Participating in incident response to maintain high product reliability
• Writing technical documentation and maintaining code integrity and organization

Required skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent on-the-job experience
• Experience in web application development with TypeScript, HTML, and CSS across spec design, release, and maintenance
• Experience in backend development with Java or a similar environment
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work autonomously at the feature/project level with high ownership and accountability
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desired skills and experience:

• Experience with React, TypeScript, and SQL
• Familiarity working with distributed systems
• Experience with security theory and practice, and experience writing software that passes security reviews. Experience managing security reviews is a plus
• Experience developing feature specifications in partnership with product owners
• Experience writing multithreaded Java
• Experience with building resilient and scalable systems that can adapt to unpredictable demand
